Getting Mum Fit – Exercising after Pregnancy

Noah is 7 weeks old now, so I’m starting to think about getting back to training and getting fit again. Suffering from SPD has meant that I hardly did any exercise at all for the last 5 months of pregnancy, not even walking the dog. So it’s safe to say that I’m feeling sluggish and really unfit now. And although I’m not usually focussed on “losing weight” I have put on a fair few pounds from pregnancy. I don’t know how many as I don’t weigh myself, but I’ve gone from a size 8 to a size 14 in clothes. So I would love to be able to get back into some of the clothes I bought (and felt really good in thanks to all the training) before I fell pregnant.

After struggling with so much pain during Noah’s pregnancy it’s been lovely to be able to walk again since having him and I feel ready to get back to working out. In fact, I’m really looking forward to it. BUT I also feel a bit daunted about where to even start. Luckily, I’ve got Matt to help me on my way and so I asked him for some hints and tips for getting fit after pregnancy and as always he agreed to share them with you all. So here is his wisdom for starting to exercise after pregnancy. Continue reading

Getting Mum Fit – Exercising Whilst Pregnant

So as you may have noticed from my recent posts, I’m pregnant with our second son.  I was determined from the start of my pregnancy that I was going to stay fit and healthy throughout and keep going with my personal training sessions with Matt.  Now to be totally transparent, that hasn’t been quite how the plan has gone.  Instead, I developed SPD about a month and a half ago and so I’ve had to stop my PT sessions which I’m honestly really upset about.  I never ever thought I’d be that person who would feel sad that they couldn’t be tortured every week but turns out once I’ve got going with this whole exercise thing, I’m actually loving it.

Anyway, before the SPD kicked in I asked Matt to write me a little post all about exercising during pregnancy as I know when I found out I was pregnant again I was really worried about harming the baby.  As usual, he has written a fab little post for you all explaining the do’s and don’t of pre-natal exercise.   Here it is…

Getting Mum Fit – Making the Most of Weekends

It’s been a little longer than planned between the last post on getting mum fit and this one.  I’ve been so busy growing a human that most of the other stuff in my life has been put on hold.  But it’s here, better late than never as they say.   This weeks post from Matt is all about keeping on track over the weekend or at least minimising the damage we do to our health goals over our relaxed two days off.   So without further ado, here is Matt’s wisdom.

Are the weekends stalling your progress or making you feel guilty?

Most of us live for the weekends.  Those 2 golden days away from the 9 to 5 and school runs are what we live for.  Yet are our weekends ruining the progress we make throughout the week?

Do we go too far off track from the health goals we have during Monday to Friday?
Is the loosened regime of good food and exercise derailing our progress?

People tend to end up weighing more on a Monday than they do on a Friday. And it’s not just our weight that is affected.  It’s also, and more importantly our;

  • sleep schedules
  • stress
  • energy levels

These all take a hit from what happens between Happy Hour on Friday and our Sunday Dinner.

So, what can we do to stay on track and possibly even make more progress, instead of undoing it? Continue reading

Getting Mum Fit – Ditch the Fad Diets

So as promised I’ve teamed up with Matt, my fabulous personal trainer, and brought you the very first post in my new series ‘Getting Mum Fit’.

We thought the best place to start would be at the very beginning, at the easiest place, that takes very little effort to change. Your diet.  And by diet we don’t mean Atkins, we just mean the food that you put into your body.   And honestly, it’s been the best part of my journey so far.   So without further ado, I will hand over to Matt.

Stop with the Fad Diets, You Need to Make These Simple Changes

We all want a quick fix.  And due to the instant access we are used to, we also want the results NOW.

So we get sucked into these crazy diets, cleanses, weight loss shakes and pills.  And some of them may work. But once you stop using them, the weight starts to pile back on.

The reason for this? We haven’t learned to make any changes to our lifestyle.

We need to make simple changes which we can keep up continuously, so we are changing our lifestyle instead of having a few weeks of weight loss followed by, usually, even more, weight gain. Continue reading
