So we are already two months into 2018, it’s gone crazy fast and I haven’t had a chance to sit down and work out what I want to achieve this year yet. This is something I’ve been doing for the past 4 years, I make myself a little list of things I want to do. So rather than have resolutions I’m destined to not fulfil and then beat myself up about, I instead think of all the things I’d really love to do. Then I can look back at the end of the year and appreciate all the stuff I achieved. Anything left over that I still want to do rolls over to another year. It’s an awesome way to really try to tick off those things on your ‘bucket list’. For example in 2016 I fulfilled a lifetimes dream of learning to snowboard. So I’ve pulled together some things I want to do in 2018 but first I’m going to have a quick recap of 2017’s list and what I managed to tick off.
To Do List 2017
Try for another baby
Both Ant and I agreed we were absolutely ready to expand our family in June and so the fun began (sorry Mum!). Unfortunately we went through the horrid experience of a miscarriage in September but we will keep trying.
Expand on the food I cook
I found a few new recipes that I have added to our regular meals, but I’m still stuck in a bit of a rut. I think this one might roll over to 2018.
Make some money from blogging
I haven’t made any money from blogging yet but last year I had more opportunities through the blog and even Instagram than I have had before. Despite not really having much time for blogging last year what with the new house, new dog and working quite a lot of overtime. Hopefully this year I’m going to really knuckle down with it.
Go on holiday
Another fail on this one. I wasn’t sure we would ever get this ticked off, I mean we just bought a house so a holiday on top was a bit optimistic. However, we did book a little break at the end of the year for Luca for Christmas, but I’m not sure that actually counts does it?
Keep improving my photography
I’d like to think I can put a big tick next to this one. I signed up for a few photography courses in 2017 and really got to grips with my new lens. It’s got me hooked again, and despite not having as much time to play with my photography as I’d like I do think I’ve definitely made lots of progress. In fact, I’ve done two cake smashes at the end of the year for people which must mean I’m doing something right, right?
Visit the Harry Potter studios
This has been on the list since I started making these lists, and it’s still on the list now. Will I ever make it?
Get a dog
Stick a big fat tick next to this one. In May we welcomed our gorgeous Ronnie into our home and haven’t looked back.
Learn to dance
Put it this way, I still can’t dance.
This one I definitely managed. We had Christmas at our house this year, and I think I managed to adequately feed everyone. It was a bit odd having it here and not at my mums but I think everyone enjoyed it.
Look after Myself
I left it quite late but I think I just about pulled it off. In August I started regular personal training sessions. It’s made me feel so much better about myself whilst also making me physically fitter. There are still lots of things I need to work on to look after myself more, like drink more water and eat a bit better but I’m definitely on my way.
So out of the 10 things on my list I managed to cross 5 and a bit off which I don’t think is too bad really.
My list for 2018 has been a little harder to curate as there is one big thing on it which if we make it happen will probably eat up a lot of the year and my time. After some deliberation though I’ve managed to get a list together.
to do list 2018
More paid photography work
Despite it making me feel extremely uncomfortable, I loved doing the cake smashes last year and making money from doing something you love is never a bad thing. I’d love to get some family shoots this year. To get myself ready I’ve signed up to Sarah Mason’s Capturing Childhood Photography Retreat and I’m so looking forward to learning even more from this fabulously talented lady.
Have a baby
Hopefully, seeing as we have started trying for a baby, we might actually have one by the end of this year. I can’t decide if that’s terrifying or exciting. Maybe it’s both?
Go on holiday
I really want to take Ant and Luca to Italy this year. A sunny summer holiday is just what we all need after our crazy busy year last year.
Look after myself
This one is staying on the list. Despite making a start there is definite room for improvement. I need to ditch the sugar, up my water intake and just generally be more conscious of what I’m using to fuel my body. Hopefully, my personal trainer can give me lots of help with this though. I also need to make more time for pampering myself as I always feel better after a face mask and freshly shaved legs.
- Regular date nights
I love my husband dearly but we definitely don’t spend enough time together. Ant works long hours and I’m always shattered by the time he gets home. We very rarely have time together aside from on the sofa watching tv. I’m going to try and make sure we have regular date nights, whether these are at home or out out. I think it’s important to remember why we are together and remember the couple that came before the kid, the house and the dog as that definitely seems to have become a distant memory recently.
Make some more clothes
I caught the sewing bug a few years ago, and I’ve made a Christmas stocking for Luca and a top and skirt for myself. But I haven’t had my sewing machine out for far too long. In fact it’s at my mums house at the minute. It’s time I fixed that and got back into the swing of it. I’m thinking matching pj’s for us all for Christmas this year.
- Finish decorating the house
It’s going to be a never-ending task I think, but I really want to get the house decorated this year. I want to inject some more of our personality into the rooms and make it feel even more like home. I’ve got Pinterest boards overflowing with ideas but I need to actually make a start on making them reality.
Expand on meals
Another one which is staying. I’m sick of being stuck in a rut and always eating the same meals, so I’m going to try to find at least one new meal a month to add to my cooking repertoire. I’m also thinking a monthly meal plan will help to stop us eating the same things every week as we tend to do that a lot too. Any hints and tips are welcome.
Harry Potter studio tours
Again, it’s been on here from the get-go, but it’s staying. This year has got to be the year. Surely?
Do Tough Mudder
I am actually crazy. Why would I think I can even attempt this? But for some reason I really want to give it a go. I’m 30 this year, and I think I need to prove to myself that I’m stronger and fitter at nearly 30 than I was in my 20’s. I also kind of want to put all that personal training into action and see just how far I’ve come since starting my training.
That’s it, my to-do list for the year. I don’t feel like it’s that unachievable this year so fingers crossed for lots of success.
