Four, my little Luca is four.

Four years have flown.  I know it’s the biggest cliche in the book but they really have.  I quite simply cannot get over the fact that Luca is now four.  I mean, it feels like yesterday I was fretting over being induced.  It feels only yesterday I was staring into his big blue eyes as he lay silently on my chest immediately after being born.  Those big blue eyes that were filled with calmness and curious wonder. Those eyes that would have a hold on me from that moment on and would help him get his own way a lot of the time.  It feels like yesterday I brought him home, feeling utterly clueless at how to mother him but knowing I would love him and protect him to the ends of the earth from that moment on.

These past four years have been the best years of my life.  Although I can’t really remember what my life was like before I became a mum (I just know I had much more sleep then).  Those years have been filled with some of the most amazing times and accompanying memories and I am so thankful for them.  We have had some really awful things happen in our family over the past three years or so but Luca has been the constant that has kept me smiling and made the rubbish we’ve endured so much more bearable.

Mostly because he is just such a character.  He has the best sense of humour and the most infectious laugh when he gets going.  Although he still can’t laugh for long before getting the hiccups and then throwing up.  We have to have a fun limit in our house to prevent the vomit flowing.  He loves to make people laugh and I have a feeling that he may be the class clown if he continues in this way.  I’m not entirely sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing!?  He loves to tease and to wind people up which isn’t surprising seeing as that is all his Papa, Uncle Frazer & Daddy do to him.

He has mastered the art of a good lie too.  While most of these are innocent and mostly revolve around him blaming Daddy for his trumps, it is definitely not something I am looking forward to when hits his teens and uses it to his advantage.

He is still a little boy full of wonder and asks many questions, oh so many questions.  I love his curiosity but sometimes I don’t actually have the answers which really annoys him.  He wants to know everything about everything.   Although it drives me crazy at times it has also meant that he is flourishing in his academic abilities and hopefully will shine next year when he goes to big school.

Along with the constant questions is the constant chatter.  There is never a quite moment in our house. Luca talks all the time. I have no idea who he gets that from.

Moving on swiftly.

Despite his fluency with his speech and having a huge vocabulary, Luca’s motor skills haven’t quite been at the same stage.  However, these are now starting to catch up. He has recently started to ride his proper bike around the streets and is brilliant on a space hopper.

This last year has seen Luca start pre-school and since then make leaps and bounds in his development.  There is absolutely no trace of my baby left, none at all.  You can see from the pictures in this post just how much he has changed in the last 12 months.  So I really feel that our journey into boyhood has begun and before I know it he will be out playing with his friends and they will be knocking on the door to see if he is in.

I thought now was a perfect time to do a little interview with Luca.  After seeing a few people interviewing their kids on facebook, and reading Hannah’s (Make Do & Push) interview with her little girl, I thought it would be a nice thing to do for Luca.  Something we can continue each year to see how his answers change as he grows up.
