The best ‘best friend’

Today is one of my most favourite person’s birthday and I thought it would be a good time to dedicate a little post to her.

Ashleigh is my best friend, and honestly I couldn’t ask for a better one.  We met at University when our friends introduced us.  Apparently she didn’t think I liked her to begin with as I used to give her dirty looks all the time, erm Resting Bitch Face that would be then. After being introduced we then ended up on our own together whilst we waited for our mutual friends to come back. In this time we got chatting about what we had been up to over summer. Both horse riding, and the rest they say, is history.

About 2 weeks later we had a horse on loan together and were driving to the stables twice a day between uni lectures.   Not sure our class mates appreciated the lingering horse smell that we took into lectures with us. Weirdly we tended to sit alone most of the time.

Since then we have been pretty much inseparable.

She is really my only friend who has stuck around since I had Luca. I still have my pre-baby friends but I see them much less than I did before (just to clarify this isn’t a dig at them, I get it, I’m nowhere near as fun as I was before). Ash however used to come and watch Luca when he was a tiny baby who didn’t sleep so that I could shower properly. She offered to watch him whilst I slept and would cook for me or nip to the shop for me.

She lavishes him with attention when she comes round and isn’t bothered that we can’t have a cuppa in peace as he usually wants all of her attention.  She is the best auntie to Luca. He adores her and she him.

She is an absolute god send when I need childcare, always stepping up and babysitting when she can so that I can go out or work.

We have had some amazing nights out together. Fabulous weekend breaks. Day trips and road trips too.

She was my maid of honour and helped me so much with my wedding plans and all the DIY details.

She is my spa buddy. My riding companion. My confidant and my shoulder to cry on.

I absolutely love this lady and for her birthday this year I wanted to tell the world just how fabulous she is. We have been through thick and thin together and I couldn’t imagine my life without her in it.

Happy birthday Ashleigh and thank you for being you!

Oh gosh, I couldn’t cope without her being so close. Would be even better to have her closer still. Makes me feel even luckier now x
